Web Design

Need a community website? Want to give your users blogs, personal pages, a forum, different levels of permission, collaborative WIKI content, etc. etc.? Want an integrated look and feel to the site and an intuitive user interface? Want to be able to change the content yourself, instead of relying on a webmaster?

Contact me for one-stop, full service website creation. I create database-driven dynamic web sites, using the open-source Drupal content management system. Serving specifically but not exclusively social change initiatives, community projects, creative projects, and non-profit organizations. Integrated knowledge of html, xhtml, css, php, MYSQL, and Drupal architecture, as well as graphic design, the written word, music, and information organization.

An early obsession with comic books led Joel to spend much of his teenage time drawing, playing with calligraphy and creating graphics on one of the first Macintosh computers*. He started a small and mostly symbolic graphic design business during his senior year in high school. At MIT, he spent his first two years as a computer science major, and did a humanities concentration in Visual Arts. (There he also joined a choir for the first time, which eventually led to his attending the New England Conservatory of Music).

After a ten year foray into music and community building through music, Joel has returned to programming, graphic art and playing with fonts once again. He built this site with Drupal, and created its theme (look and feel) with CSS and Drupal's built in theming components. Click the "projects" tab to learn about his recent work.
